Visit forest-framed Lake Reidsville, where fishing tournaments lure anglers and where boaters enjoy cruising the sparkling water. The lake is renowned for its big bass, crappie, bream and other game fish. Fishing is allowed from boats as well as from designated bank areas. Or head to Carolina Marina in Western Rockingham County where a picturesque corner of Belews Lake is the perfect playground for water sports enthusiasts. Centrally located between Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point, N.C., Carolina Marina is easily accessed from anywhere in the Piedmont Triad. From any direction, views of lush Carolina Pines or rolling mountains make the lake a perfect place for family recreation.

Meandering through the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina, the "Mighty" Dan River flows forroughly 38 river miles through the north and northwestern sections of Rockingham County. The Dan is a virtually free-flowing river with few modern improvements—only a handful of easily portaged dams. The flood plains are wide, the banks are high, and the tree cover along the river corridors is almost unbroken. Long a favorite of local paddlers, the Dan has become increasingly popular with both novice and experienced canoers for its leisurely pace, beautiful scenery, and historic significance.

From its beginnings near the Virginia border to its confluence with the Dan, the Mayo River flows roughly 16 miles through the northwestern section of the County. Bordered by wooded hills and bottomland, the Mayo is a river that offers something for everyone. The northernmost part of the river features turbulent streams flow around rock outcroppings, resulting in several rapids, including the "Boiling Hole", a Class III rapid. Further south, the river smooths out and deepens, offering paddlers a more leisurely pace. As with the Dan River, the scenery is spectacular along the Mayo. A wide variety of plant life such as ferns and flowering perennials mark the riverside. White-tailed deer are frequently sighted, and birds such as wild turkeys and red-tailed hawks are also often seen.
