Rutherford has it all! Once you visit, you may want to stay forever. That sentiment, expressed by a recent visitor to the county, pretty well sums up the attitude of a lot of folks who came this way.
The weather is nearly perfect. Average temperature is 59.9 degrees. Stop anywhere in the county and it can be a delightful experience. Take a leisurely stroll down the streets of Forest City, Spindale and Rutherfordton and enjoy a laid-back way of life and commerce that is still alive and well. Forest City was once named an All-American City and Rutherfordton and Spindale might easily qualify for the same honor - they're all that special. The smaller communities of Bostic, Ellenboro and Ruth offer the same brand of charm.
No visit to the county is ever complete without a tour of the Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and Hickory Nut Gorge area. It's a county showplace famous for its natural attractions and beauty. The area has been the site of several movies of world acclaim, among which are Dirty Dancing and The Last of the Mohicans.
