The history of Matthews, here in Mecklenburg County, NC, is still being made. From a little village in a farming community half a county away from Charlotte, it and Charlotte have grown until they rub elbows. With a population of some 19,000, Matthews is part of the section known as Metrolina, which has the distinction of being the fifth largest urban area in the country.

And welcome to Charlotte, the Queen City, where we know you will be delighted by the sights and sounds of tourists' number one choice as a destination in the Carolinas. In Charlotte, there is always something new to entice, interest and amaze. Charlotte's southern culture represents a colorful spectrumthe fine artwork of the Mint Museumto the engineracing thunder of NASCAR that draws more than one million visitors each year. Charlotte is the largest city between Washington, D.C. and Dallas, TX. Charlotte is located close to the border of SC, just a three-hour drive to the beaches of the Carolinas or to the west, the scenic mountains. Charlotte is the number one travel destination in the Carolinas. Whether you stay a day, weekend or longer, Charlotte will keep you entertained.

Whether you are a traveler or a resident, a family or retired couple, Lake Norman has more for you than greets the eye. You can dine in the finest of restaurants, or casually by many dockside locations. Entertainment to please any appetite, food to satisfy any palette. Lake Norman - 34 miles long, 520 miles of shoreline - is a lake that provides plenty of opportunity for fun in the sun on the largest man-made lake in the Carolinas. Cruise the lake on your own boat, catch the fish of your dreams or picnic at waters edge at one of our four lakeside parks.

Nestled on the banks of beautiful Lake Norman, our lake towns of Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville, NC also offer a wide array of leisure amenities for our visitors and guests. Shop at upscale Birkdale Village and Concord Mills or for NASCAR action visit Lowe's Motor Speedway or any of the numerous area race shops. Take a walk down memory lane at Historic Latta Plantation and the town of Davidson - home of Davidson College. Enjoy playing year-round golf at challenging courses or be amazed at the extensive collection of birds of prey at the Carolina Raptor Center. At days end, relax over a meal at one of our restaurants and retire to one of our many comfortable accommodations. In addition, Lake Norman is in close proximity to the big city activities of Charlotte (only 15 minutes north of the Queen City), two hours from the mountains of western North Carolina and only four hours from the coast.
